Ranch House for the 21st Century

Project for the Nature Conservancy

There are two primary objectives to this design – to create a self-sufficient, self-sustaining ranch house and to blend it with the historic architecture of the Medano Ranch in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. This project was designed for the Nature Conservancy as a residance for the on-site ranger for the ranch and as a demonstration house that sustainable living does not need to be austere.

The house is designed to exist entirely independent of the utility grid, producing power from photovoltaic shingles and windmills;it also purifies and recycles water. The house blends with the rest of the structures on the site byechoing the existing vernacular style.
